As my way of saying thanks just for visiting my web site I’d like to send you a freebie that you can use immediately.
Send me an e-mail and I’ll send you a free copy of my article "5 Books in 1 Year" published in the June 2003 issue of The Christian Communicator.
The entertaining to-the-point article details how I wrote and published 5 books in one year while working a full-time job. In case you’re wondering…no, I didn’t write a single paragraph at the office. Even though I was writing material that I knew my church where I was serving as an associate pastor could use, I wrote outside of church/office hours. And without neglecting my family. So, you want to be a writer but insist that you don’t have the time? Sorry, you’re talking to the wrong person if you want validation of that excuse.
In the article I’ll give you the four writing principles/activities that worked for me. It’s free for the asking. Simply send me an e-mail at ramon@ramonpresson.com and request article "5 Books in 1 Year."
1) Do I have to live near you in order for you to be my writing coach?
No, thanks to phones and e-mail effective coaching can be done long distance.
While, most of my clients are indeed local I have writing clients from Florida to Arizona. No place is too far away if you have a phone, access to a computer with internet/ e-mail, a P.O. Box or an old-fashioned mail box with a red flag.
2)What does it cost to have you coach me?
My fee is $90 per hour. That hour may be spent in privately reading, reviewing, and critiquing your actual work. The time will certainly include conversation and discussion of your ideas, your content, and my recommendations.
3)Can we talk about this before I make any kind of commitment?
Certainly. In fact, I insist. I offer a complimentary consult by phone (or office visit if you live in middle TN) to discuss my services and your writing goals and needs. Together we’ll determine if we’re a good match. I cannot guarantee my availability for all interested participants. Factors include the number of current clients, the scope of their goals/writing projects and yours, as well as my own writing schedule and my publishers’ deadlines. I want to give you my focused attention always. If I don’t feel that I can do so and help you fulfill your writing goals I will let you know.
4)How will I know how many hours this will take?
We’ll talk about that during our consult. You have the ultimate say-so in that matter. Some people want help with a specific project which compacts the coaching hours. Some see their writing as something of a journey and me as something of a trail guide—the hours are spread out over time. It’s different for everyone. That’s why we talk first and then both of us take some time to think about it.
5)Why do you do this? Why do you as a published author want to coach other writers?
For most of my life I have consistently done two things: counseling and writing. In the film Chariots of Fire, the British runner Eric Liddell says, “God made me fast and when I run I feel His pleasure.” When I am counseling or writing I feel God’s pleasure, enjoying the fulfillment of doing what God designed me to do. I find coaching writers particularly rewarding as I have the opportunity to bring my two passions and core competencies together.
And forgive me if this sounds sappy, but in doing so I feel that I am honoring those strategic people that God used to mentor or encourage me along my writing journey.
It is a way of saying thank you to Calvin Miller, Mike Shepherd, Dr. Gary Chapman, Susan Tjaden, Ron Keck, John Eames, and others. It is my way of paying tribute to Maurice Thomas, my Wingate College English professor who told me in 1980 that I had a special gift, a “way with words.” Mr. Thomas gave me his time outside of class, “coaching” me in the craft of writing and compelling me to embrace my identity as a writer. I stay in touch with Mr. Thomas ( I can’t bring myself to call him Maurice even though he insists ) and I tell him that he is the grandfather of my writing. All my journals, poetry, articles, books—they are his grandchildren. I want to be a grandfather like that…..perhaps of your writing, if God so leads.
